2012 TR Passalacqua Cabernet Sauvignon, Block 1

Tasting Notes

This wine was tasted on January 26, 2019 from a 750ml bottle that was stored between 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Older vintages may show some bottle variation depending upon storage conditions and differences in cork density. Also, please note that some library bottlings may take an additional one to two weeks to process and ship.

At 7 years old, this wine is beginning to come into its own. Rich and black in the glass, this wine confesses its bold depths from the start. The nose is leafy with cigar box, baking cocoa and cassis undertones. The tannins are alive and showy, providing a strong full palate of sweet black olive and currants, before finishing long and lush. Drink this wine now or cellar through 2032.

Winemaker's Notes

The vines of Block 1 run north to south through Arbuckle gravelly loam soil on the TR Passalacqua Ranch. This steep south-facing hillside produces a rich complex wine that showcases deep dark fruit and an integrated tannin structure. The Cabernet from Block 1 was aged in barrels made by the famed cooper Alain Fouquet, the same ones he crafts for the legendary Chateau Margaux. These were chosen to enhance the Margaux-like qualities of Block 1: seductive aromatics overlying a wine of great structure and ageability.
