2013 TR Passalacqua Cabernet Sauvignon, Block 23

Tasting Notes

This wine was tasted on January 26, 2019 from a 750ml bottle that was stored between 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Older vintages may show some bottle variation depending upon storage conditions and differences in cork density. Also, please note that some library bottlings may take an additional one to two weeks to process and ship.

Block 23 is always fermented in new oak barrels which adds layers of spiceā€”a sweet woodiness to the fruit aromas that integrates beautifully with the finished wine. The 2013 is expressive, highlighted by aromas of ripe black cherry and blackberry. The palate is chewy and fleshy, with a backbone of precision and grippy tannins that will soften with age. This is a luscious wine that is tasting great now and will continue to age well through 2028.

Winemaker's Notes

Block 23 is the newest planting of Cabernet Sauvignon on the TRP Vineyard. Planted in 2009, it has topography like no other block on the ranch. There is hardly any slope to this bench that sits above all the other blocks, on the crest of a hill, overlooking the entire ranch. The brick colored soil is fertile and fed by an underground spring. Not only is this site unique to the ranch, but the winemaking is as well. We pick these grapes a little later than the other blocks, which means a higher sugar concentration, and a darker fruit profile. We also barrel ferment the juice, which is a labor and space intensive endeavor, but pays off with lush integrated tannins, and bursting fruit.
