2014 Old Vine Zinfandel

Tasting Notes

The 2014 vintage of Old Vine presents classic brambly blackberry, dried cherry and plum flavors, perfectly accented by a hint of white pepper and sweet oak on the palate. Aging for eleven months in French and American oak rounds and lengthens the mouthfeel and softens the tannins, while preserving structure to underpin its lush fruit and spice. Savor the long, complex finish these vines are prized for, with lingering notes of toasty oak, spiced cinnamon and cardamom.

Winemaker's Notes

Our 2014 Old Vine Zinfandel is a blend of grapes from some of the most historic vineyards in Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley. These vineyards were first planted by Italian farmers who immigrated here and used the traditional method of field blending. Field blending is the practice of interplanting grapes such as Carignane and Petite Sirah among the Zinfandel vines, which gives the wine complexity in both fruit and tannin. The head trained, gnarled old vines produce a smaller crop than younger vines, and are prized for the depth and intensity they bring to the blend.
