2016 TR Passalacqua Zinfandel

Tasting Notes

The TR Passalacqua Zinfandel smells dark and dense, and does not disappoint on the palate. The fleshy ripe fruits give way to a bold structure unlike any of our other Zinfandels. The fruit tannin and oak tannin meld perfectly showing hints of cinnamon and vanilla on the finish. A bold new Zinfandel for us that truly shows the unique terroir of the TR Passalacqua Ranch.

Winemaker's Notes

In 2013 Tom Passalacqua found the steepest hillside, up to 50-degree slopes in some areas, on his sprawling 400 acre ranch and declared he would plant 5 acres of Zinfandel. With 130 acres already under vine, and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, this was a surprising turn of events. But he was inspired by Zinfandels he had tasted from rugged terrain and on hillsides with up to 60-degree slopes. He loved the intensity of flavor and structure that came from these struggling vines. This is the inaugural release of his vision, and I must say it is far and away living up to the intense structured Zinfandel it was meant to be.
