2014 Abbe Ranch Chardonnay

Tasting Notes

This wine is a balancing act of silky texture and bright acidity. It was left on its lees in barrel, and was stirred three times a week. This continual settling of the lees adds a creamy textural component to the mid palate, and when paired with the natural acidity of this grape, the result is something like lemon custard or grilled pineapple - broad and rich, with a core of fresh acidity that lingers.

Winemaker's Notes

The Abbe Vineyard is nestled on a bench in the southwestern slopes of Dry Creek Valley, on the border of Russian River Valley. The vines are 34 years old and are planted in gravely well drained soil, factors that help to curb the typical vigor of Chardonnay. These aged vines are the “old Wente” clone which is characterized by smaller clusters and smaller berries, giving us a higher concentration of flavor.
