2015 Pratt Vineyard Chardonnay

Tasting Notes

We’ve selected 2 different clones, coming from different sections of this ranch. Each clone brings unique characteristics that add to the complexity of the final blend. The musque clone 77 stands out the most to me, offering up tropical elements of guava and lychee. The “wild” fermentation of the juice led to a longer cooler barrel fermentation, which helped retain the delicate aromatics. To bring a richness to the palate, I decided to hand stir each barrel 2 times per week during secondary fermentation and throughout aging. I think this also brought out a toasted hazelnut component on the palate which marries well with the white peach and brulee that linger on the finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Grapevines have been a part of Jim Pratt’s life for over 30 years. He started his career in the 80’s at Sonoma Grapevine, one of the nations largest grapevine nurseries. He then moved into managing vineyards with his company Cornerstone Certified Vineyard. Jim is a collaborative grower who brings great care, attention, and dedication to farming world class grapes. His home ranch, where this fruit comes from, is on Irwin Lane, at the southern end of the Santa Rosa plains. The warm days and cool nights of this Russian River property provide a long, consistent growing season resulting in delicate aromatics balanced by beautiful acidity.
