2016 Halling Vineyard Zinfandel

Tasting Notes

There is no mistaking this wine for anything other than Zinfandel. The nose leaps out of the glass with blackberry jam, cassis, and a hint of cocoa powder; all aromatics so succinctly Dry Creek Valley. This vineyard has the perfect combination of site, exposure, soil, and vines to truly showcase how fantastic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel can be. All components are coming into balance on the palate; the dark fruit up front is integrating with the dusty tannin and toasty oak structure. The finish is all brambly black fruit, calling for you to take another sip.

Winemaker's Notes

Susan and Gary Halling purchased land in Dry Creek Valley with the intention of growing ultra premium wine grapes. After consulting with renowned vineyard manager Ulises Valdez in 1999, they realized Zinfandel was perfect for this hillside site just above the valley floor, with its beautiful red soils, and east facing exposure. They were able to get cuttings from a 100-year-old vineyard up on Bradford mountain, planted to the Hambrecht clone. Susan and Gary are meticulous farmers, with every intention of growing the highest quality grapes, and it truly shows. The Halling Vineyard Zinfandel is a fantastic representation of the depth, complexity, and power that can come from Dry Creek Valley.
